Compare more than the departure minute
Search again for the booked journey on the exact travel date. Compare the departure and arrival stations, train numbers and interchange points with your saved documents. A service can leave at a similar time yet omit an important stop. An altered terminus can also lengthen the final journey to your accommodation.
Open the notices attached to the connection. Engineering work may mean a diversion, extra travel time or a replacement bus for part of the route. If so, establish where the bus leaves. Its stop is not necessarily beside the usual platform entrance. Luggage, bicycles or assistance requirements may also make replacement transport a materially different proposition.
Give each check a clear purpose
A first review a few days before travelling helps identify larger changes while you can still adjust arrangements. Another check the previous evening establishes the latest position. On the day, review the journey before leaving for the station. These steps cannot prevent last-minute disruption, but they reduce dependence on an outdated plan.
Use official notices from the operator and the affected route. DB brings engineering information and current journey details together on its timetable pages. A general notice about a region does not establish that your particular train is affected. Match its dates, direction and route rather than immediately changing plans because of a broad headline.
For journeys involving several companies, check the local connection too. An alteration to urban transport can affect arrival more than a few minutes on the long-distance train. Pay particular attention to the final section after a late arrival and the first feeder service before an early departure. These can be easy to overlook when the main ticket is already saved.
Carry changes through consistently
Update your short itinerary once you have settled on a replacement connection. Keep original booking documents separately in case they are needed for an enquiry. Do not accidentally combine the new departure time with the old interchange station in a handwritten note or shared message.
If an alteration affects ticket validity or a reservation, resolve that point with the provider. A suggested route is initially a transport possibility, not automatic confirmation that every ticket you hold is valid on it. The revised plan is complete only when the route, documents and any additional requirements fit together. Share that complete version with companions so everyone is working from the same information.
