Fix the end of the day first
Work backwards from departure: when must you reach the station, collect the bags and leave the final activity? Include the actual route to the platform and a suitable allowance. Storage described as near the station may still be on the opposite side of a large building, adding another walk before boarding.
Next record checkout time and ask whether the property stores luggage afterwards. Confirm how collection works if necessary. A staffed reception in the morning does not automatically mean the same arrangements apply late in the afternoon. This is particularly relevant with small properties or accommodation using self-access rather than continuous reception service.
Keep the final activities geographically connected
Choose something that fits the area between accommodation, storage and departure station. One last visit across the city may work, but it needs a real time comparison. The number of free hours alone does not show how much will disappear into outward and return journeys before you can collect your bags.
For a museum or guided visit, check duration and entry arrangements. A fixed start shortly before the required collection time is an awkward combination. A walk with a flexible ending may provide more room on departure day than an event you would have to leave early. Match the activity's structure to the deadline you cannot move.
Retain meals and toilet breaks in the plan. If every minute until departure is allocated to sightseeing, those needs are pushed into your station allowance. A simple final meal in the right area is often easier. It prevents lunch or dinner from becoming a rushed search between luggage collection and the platform.
Carry a useful small day bag
Remove required documents, your ordinary personal medication needs and items for the train before leaving the suitcase. Make sure the key, collection code or receipt is not inside the stored bag. The day bag should support both the last city activity and the beginning of the return journey without another complete repack.
Set a reminder for collection if you tend to lose track of time during visits. Afterwards, check the storage space, bags and documents fully. A delayed return train is not automatically an invitation to begin another distant activity: platform information and departure estimates may change again. Keeping the last hour understandable makes it easier to finish the trip without an unnecessary final rush.
