Limit the central waterfront section
Nyhavn and neighbouring central streets can provide an initial overview. Decide how far to remain beside the water and where to turn inland. A promenade, square and selected interior already form a useful half-day.
If you want a palace or museum, check the specific offer and allow enough time. Several familiar buildings nearby do not guarantee that their interiors fit into one short circuit. Deliberately leave part of the centre for another walk.
Photographs beside water and on bridges should respect everyday movement. In particular, do not overlook cyclists as though they were merely part of picturesque scenery. Move to a quiet edge when checking directions and use the intended crossings.
Choose one more district through interest
Vesterbro, Nørrebro and Christianshavn offer different urban settings. Select one according to your interest in food, shops, architecture or canals. The decision need not depend on which district appears in the greatest number of lists.
Christianshavn may suit another waterside loop. Vesterbro offers a different addition near the central station area. In either case, use one street or cultural destination as an anchor and leave sufficient open time around it. Half a day in a connected area is easier to remember than three brief arrivals.
If a restaurant influences the choice, check its reservation arrangements and position. A difficult-to-obtain booking across the city may determine the whole day. That makes sense when dining is a principal interest; otherwise, a reachable alternative may fit better.
Walking and cycling are different experiences
A city known for cycling does not require every visitor to rent a bicycle. Choose transport according to confidence, experience and the routes actually planned. Someone mainly looking and photographing may be more flexible on foot without repeatedly finding suitable parking.
For longer connections, public transport can preserve the compact itinerary. Check the route and ticket for the actual journey. On departure day, a small familiar section near luggage storage is enough. Another distant district is likely to create more transfer than additional time in a place, particularly when bags must be collected before continuing to a station or airport.
