Walk to the tip with the return in mind
A route through the old town towards the Ortspitze helps explain the confluence. Connect squares and lanes rather than staying exclusively beside the water. The cathedral and Residence Square offer different impressions from the open space at the meeting of the rivers.
At the confluence, allow time simply to observe. Water colour and appearance depend on conditions; a particular contrast between the rivers is not guaranteed. Choose a safe public position and respect riverside closures. Especially after rain, current signs should take precedence over a saved route.
For the return, choose another short connection through the old town if it suits your destination. A circuit does not need to maximise distance. If a train is waiting later, include luggage collection in this return rather than discovering that you must cross town again at the end.
Choose a height or a boat journey
Veste Oberhaus stands above the city and introduces another perspective on the rivers. It is an additional outing, however, involving a climb or transport, visiting time and return. Decide whether the panorama or exhibition matters most. Combining both needs more space than a quick photographic stop.
A boat trip instead provides a view from the water. Compare departure point, duration and actual route before booking. The description 'three-river cruise' does not explain every component of the offer. On a short stay, do not automatically add both fortress and cruise to the old-town programme.
A cathedral concert or another musical appointment could instead set the day's rhythm. Check the actual programme with the organiser. A general reference to a famous organ does not mean a performance takes place whenever you arrive or that sightseeing access is possible during every event.
With two days, concentrate the first on the old town and confluence, leaving the second open for the hill or water. This also permits a decision based on weather. You gain two perspectives on the river setting without needing to change transport immediately after every pause, and there remains time to sit somewhere because you like it rather than because the timetable requires it.
